Francisco Javier Andrade

Associate Professor

PhD in chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires and Master in Environmental Analysis and Assessment from Imperial College (University of London). Associate Professor (from 2017 to the present) and Ramón y Cajal Researcher (2010-2017) in the Chemometrics, Qualimetrics and Nanosensors group of the URV.

He currently leads the group's research on Nanosensors, where he has carried out pioneering work in the area of low-cost sensors and "wearables" for health care and sports. The line of research also involves the area of new electrochemical sensors, organic electrochemical transistors and new analytical signal generation systems. He has more than 60 publications in international journals, and more than 10 patents.

His academic training includes a stay at the laboratory for spectrochemistry, under the supervision of Dr. Gary Hieftje, (2003-2007). He has received the Chevening Scholarship (British Council, 1997) and has been distinguished as a Young Outstanding Analytical Scientist (JAAS, Royal Society of Chemistry, 2006).

His academic profile is complemented by an intense work in technology transfer and innovation. He was director of Open Innovation and leader of disruptive innovation at Unilever Corp. (United Kingdom) between 2007 and 2010. He is one of the contributors to the book "Business Model Generation", a bestseller in innovation that was popularized by the Business Model Canvas. In addition, in 2012 he created and led the Innovation Hub Catalunya Sud, a non-profit initiative that received funding from Universitat Rovira i Virgili and Tarragona County Council. He is also required to provide training courses and consultancy in innovation and the creation of new business opportunities for national and international companies.
