Jordi Riu

Associate Professor

Graduated in Chemical Sciences from Rovira i Virgili University in 1993 and PhD in Chemistry from Rovira i Virgili University in 1999 (extraordinary doctoral award). He has been a university professor since 2011. He was coordinator of the PhD program in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology between 2009 and 2011, and since 2014 he has been coordinator of the master's degree in Nanoscience, Materials and Processes. He teaches in the field of analytical chemistry and nanoscience and nanotechnology at the Faculty of Chemistry and at the Higher Technical School of Chemical Engineering of the URV. His research focuses on the application and development of chemometric techniques to extract relevant information from chemical data. He has contributed to the use and optimization of analytical methods that use portable instrumental devices (mainly NIR devices) that can be used on-line or in situ, to avoid as much as possible the use of reagents, minimize waste and reduce associated costs. Currently he also collaborates in the development of electrochemical (bio)sensor arrays, deriving towards analytical methods that follow the postulates of green chemistry: use of low-cost substrates such as paper or inclusion of sensors in portable devices.

His research results in more than 70 articles with an h-index of 32 (Scopus), numerous book chapters and scientific popularization articles, and more than 75 contributions to congresses and conferences.
